Car Crash Forces Temporary Closure Of Route 9, Loss Of Power In Leicester

LEICESTER (CBS) - A car crash early Sunday morning forced the closure of Route 9 in Leicester and knocked out power to part of the town.

The car crashed into a utility pole on Route 9 near Cross Street just before 6 a.m.

Two people suffered non-life threatening injuries after the crash, while a third passenger denied treatment at the scene.

Route 9 had to be temporarily closed for a time while National Grid crews replaced the broken pole and repaired the fallen wires, which led to the loss of power in part of the town.

Police said that while the cause of the crash remains under investigation, responding officers believed speed and alcohol may have played a role.
