Jason Varitek, Wife Welcome Baby Girl

BOSTON (CBS) - Former Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek's wife Catherine has given birth to the couple's first child.

The two named the baby girl Liv Jordan Varitek.

Varitek's wife thanked everyone for the well wishes on Twitter:

"Heading home from the hospital w Liv today. She is beyond perfect! Jason & I thank you all for ur kind words :) Xoxo," said Catherine Varitek on Twitter.

Varitek retired after last season.

He hit .256 with 193 home runs in more than 1,500 career games - all with the Red Sox.
