Trooper Struck In Lynn After OUI Suspect Tries To Flee

LYNN (CBS) - A Massachusetts State Police trooper was treated and released from Salem Hospital after he was struck by a car in Lynn shortly after stopping another vehicle.

At approximately 9:30 pm, troopers stopped a Honda Civic being driven by 25-year-old Nestor Mendez of Lynn. He then tried to flee, and drove at Trooper Bryan Erickson as he approached the car, causing Erickson to jump out of the way.

Erickson was struck by a second car. He was taken to Salem Hospital with shoulder and back injuries.

Mendez was captured a short distance away and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, the car; assault and battery on a police officer; leaving the scene of a personal injury crash; and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
