Powell Challenges Northeastern Grads To Get Involved In Politics

BOSTON (CBS) - Boston's first graduation ceremony of the season was held at the TD Garden Friday. Thousands of Northeastern seniors got some inspiring words of advice from former Secretary of Sate Colin Powell.

Powell challenged the graduates to get involved in politics by either running for office or exercising their right to vote.

"Make yourself smart about the issues, don't fall for slogans or one-liners, or Super PAC money," said Powell. "You make your own mind up, make your own decision."

Powell told the crowd he is no stranger to the Boston area. When he was stationed at Fort Devens in the Army, he was talked into going on a blind date with a Boston girl who is now his wife.
