Sen. Ayotte Dismisses Idea Of Becoming Romney's Running Mate

MANCHESTER, NH (CBS) - Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney took his campaign back to New Hampshire to talk fishing and gas prices.

Senator Kelly Ayotte, who is rumored to be on Romney's short list for running mates introduced him.

Some in the national press had been talking about Monday's event as a try out of sorts for Senator Kelly Ayotte. When WBZ-TV's Lauren Leamanczyk asked Ayotte about being considered for Vice President, she said it's not going to happen.

But a lot of people disagree including top Romney supporter and former Governor John Sununu.

"I think she's seriously being considered," says Sununu. "Kelly is a strong conservative."

Democrats disregarded the idea.

"I don't really think a candidate from Massachusetts is going to pick someone relatively unknown from New Hampshire," said Democratic State Rep. Terie Norelli.

The official campaign stance is that it is way too early to be talking about running mates.

Romney ignored questions about Ayotte, but did emphasize New Hampshire's importance.
