Man Arrested For Spitting On MBTA Silver Line Operator

BOSTON (CBS) - Police arrested a man for spitting in the face of a Silver Line operator in Boston on Wednesday.

Sean Stuart, 43, was arrested shortly after the incident, which occurred at 10 a.m. at the corner of Washington Street and Massachusetts Avenue.

Stuart allegedly refused to pay a $1.25 fare and then spat in the face of a 47-year-old Silver Line operator. He then allegedly lunged at the driver and began punching him.

Boston police officers working nearby had to physically pry Stuart from the operator and then detained him until Transit police took him into custody.

MBTA officials said the operator has 11 years of experience with the T.

Stuart was arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges including assault and battery on an MBTA employee and interfering with public transportation.

He was ordered held on $1,000 bail. He will return to court on May 9.

This is the second spitting incident on the T in less than a week. Last week, a man spat on an MBTA bus driver over a fare dispute. That man and an accomplice have not been caught.
