Settlement Reached In Lawsuit Against School That Shocked Student
BOSTON (CBS) - A settlement has been reached in the lawsuit against a Canton school that used shock therapy on a severely disabled boy.
A Brooklyn family sued the Judge Rotenberg Center for malpractice, for using shock therapy on their son.
The two sides reached a settlement while the jury was deliberating.
A lawyer for the center maintains the therapy can be useful to treat some patients.
"This treatment is critically important for the people who can't be effectively treated with everything else," says attorney Michael Flammia. "The JRC treats the most difficult behavior disorders in the country. The toughest cases go to JRC."
An attorney for the family says it wanted to expose what was happening at the center.
The terms of the settlement were not revealed.
