Best Races, Marathons And Walking Events In Boston

These races, marathons and walking events not only raise money for a good cause, but get your heart pumping on scenic tours of Boston. Help out these great area organizations while you shed that winter weight.

This fundraising race is in memory of Charlotte Rose Kelly, who passed away from a rare form of cancer known as a neuroblastoma. All proceeds from the race go to funding the research of this disease. All levels are welcome, with a choice between a 5K walk/run, a youth 5K walk/run, youth 10K run, a 10-K run and a wheelchair 5K.

This single loop race is open to all levels of trail runners with 10K, half-marathon, marathon and 50K options available. No awards and no frills keep the costs low for this event, but it books quickly. Space is limited to 250 participants, so be sure to register early. Race organizers advise those who do not make the registration cut-off to place themselves on the waiting list. Roughly 3/4 of those waiting last year snagged a slot.

Price: $65 registration/$1,800 fundraising commitment

This 60-mile walk will take you on a tour of Boston while you raise money to help prevent breast cancer. Individual walkers and teams of every level are welcome, as well as crew volunteers to help the event run smoothly. Although the fundraising commitment is higher than most, step-by-step guidance is provided to help each walker achieve his or her maximum potential.

Price: $25 plus $500 fundraising commitment

This inspirational half marathon raises money for the American Cancer Society while providing athletes with access to professional training to further their skills. Event space is limited to 500 participants, however, donating to support an athlete is also an option.  All levels are welcome: The event is known for helping all runners reach the finish line.

A 1/3-mile swim, 9-mile bike ride, and 3.1-mile run make up this triathlon. Limited to 750 participants, and open to all levels, the scenic views during this race helped it sell out last year. Support is also provided for first-time triathletes. Click here for award and scoring details.
