"Highest Risk" Sex Offender Arrested In New Bedford
NEW BEDFORD (CBS) – The U.S. Marshals arrested unregistered sex offender Robert Lee Bowdre in New Bedford Thursday on a federal Failure to Register Sex Offender warrant.
The federal warrant is formally known as a Violation of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act. The "Adam Walsh Act" targets non-compliant sex offenders that travel interstate and knowingly fail to register.
Bowdre is a convicted sex offender in Kentucky who fled to New Bedford and lived there for almost a year without registering as a sex offender in Massachusetts.
Bowdre was classified as a "highest-risk" offender in Kentucky. In 1996, Bowdre was convicted on multiple counts of 1st Degree Rape and was incarcerated for 14 years in the Kentucky Department of Correction.
