BOSTON (CBS) - Production for the film based on the 2009 rescue of an American ship captain held hostage by Somali pirates is set to begin on Monday, according to IMDB.

"Captain Phillips" is based on the story of Captain Richard Phillips, an alumnus of Mass. Maritime and Vermont resident who was kidnapped after his ship, the Maersk Alabama, was hijacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia.

Phillips gave himself up to the pirates in order to save his crew, and was rescued days later in April 12, 2009 by Navy SEALS, who shot all three pirates dead.

Tom Hanks will play Phillips and Catherine Keener will play his wife.

A source said Hanks will join the production for filming in March.
