Madonna Says She's Never Seen A-Rod's Centaur Painting

INDIANAPOLIS (CBS) - File this one under "news you didn't expect to come out of Super Bowl week."

With Madonna meeting with the media in advance of her Super Bowl halftime performance, reporters asked a wide range of questions of the 53-year-old pop star. She probably wasn't ready, though, for the question that Rich Shertenleib of 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich asked.

"The Super Bowl is such a perfect blend of entertainment and sports, and I know that you've spent time with athletes before and you're friends with many athletes, Alex Rodriguez being one of them," Shertenleib said to Madonna. "Is it true that he has an oil painting of himself depicted as a centaur -- half man, half horse -- in his home?"

Madonna appeared a bit stunned as she smiled and looked around the room for a moment before collecting herself.

"Wow," she said. "If he does, I haven't seen it. But I'm pretty sure he has a very large photograph of me lying on a horse. So, I hope that answers your question."

The centaur story originated in October 2009, when Us Weekly reported that he has a painting of himself as a centaur hanging above his bed.

"He was so vain," a former Rodriguez "fling" told the magazine. "He had not one, but two painted portraits of himself as a centaur."
