SOMERSWORTH, NH (CBS) – An unlikely hero reportedly scared off a gunman who had forced his way into a Somersworth, New Hampshire home Friday afternoon.

According to Foster’s Daily Democrat, a woman and her infant were home alone when the man broke in around 3 p.m.

The burglar was said to be carrying a gun and took several items.

However, he took off in a panic after the family cat spooked him.

Police told the Daily Democrat that the cat was scratching at the door and the man likely mistook the noise for a person.

The burglar is reportedly described as a man in his 50s with a beard and a uni-brow.
