The Rev. Jack Ahern of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Church said he found the statue's head lying on the ground in pieces last weekend.

"Sunday morning, about three o'clock, someone saw someone smashing the head of Christ, completely decapitating Christ and pushed the statue off its base," he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Wednesday.

Some parishioners picked the statue up and tied it to the church sign nearby.

But Ahern said the statue is beyond repair.

"It's so disrespectful. There's no respect any more," a parishioner said.

"I wonder how people are raised with the lack of morals, that they would even think of doing that."

There have been no arrests.
