Horse Rescued From Swamp In Townsend

TOWNSEND (CBS) - Firefighters rescued a horse stuck in a swamp in Townsend on Tuesday.

The rider took her 24-year-old horse, named "Roo," out for a ride on about 100 acres of private land after 2 p.m. She said she thought she was riding on grass, but was instead on unfrozen ice and slushy soil, causing the horse to get stuck and fall over.

WBZ-TV's Diana Perez reports

Crews were able to pull the horse out, but it fell back into the mud. Crews then used a sled device to help get the horse on its feet.

The horse did not suffer major injuries in the ordeal. The rider was not hurt.

The horse, a morgan, is often used in war reenactments, leading the owners to think he was not too stressed by all of the excitement.
