Report: Bill O'Brien Agrees To Become Head Coach At Penn State

BOSTON (CBS) - According to a report by ESPN's Chris Mortensen, New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien has agreed to become the next coach at Penn State.

O'Brien was not at practice with the Patriots Thursday and will reportedly be introduced by Penn State on Saturday.

He will continue to serve as Patriots offensive coordinator throughout the playoffs.

In the final year of his contract with New England, O'Brien has made a name for himself. He and quarterback Tom Brady were seen shouting at each other after Brady threw an end zone interception in a win over the Redskins. Brady said after the game he deserved the lashing from his OC.

O'Brien officially took over as offensive coordinator prior to this season after serving as New England's quarterbacks coach the last two seasons.

An Andover native, O'Brien spent his entire career in the college ranks before joining the Patriots in 2007. He spent 12 seasons in the ACC with tenures at Georgia Tech (1995-2002), Maryland (2003-04) and Duke (2005-06).

Before joining Bill Belichick in New England, O'Brien had a two-year tenure at Duke as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He served the same role in his final two years at Georgia Tech, where he also served as an assistant head coach in 2002 and was Georgia Tech's recruiting coordinator from 1999-2000. He was the running backs coach during his time at Maryland.

This will be his first head coaching job.

O'Brien is a graduate of Brown University, where he played linebacker and defensive end from 1990-92.
