More Than A Dozen Swans Found Dead In Westboro Pond

WESTBORO (CBS) - The state's Division of Fisheries and Wildlife is working with USDA Fisheries Services to investigate the deaths of more than a dozen swans at a pond in Westboro.

Officials confirmed to WBZ-TV that they have taken blood samples from the dead swans and are testing them to see if they can determine what caused those deaths.

According to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, resident Alan P. Silvestry was first to notice the group of dead swans and reported it to authorities.

"There are not usually a lot of swans here," Mr. Silvestry told The Telegram. "I've never seen so many swans here."

"At first I thought they were feeding," Mr. Silvestry said. "Then I threw a stick at them and they didn't move. I counted 14, and from a distance, I saw another six. They didn't seem to have any injuries."

Officials are not saying whether the swan deaths appear to be suspicious.
