Brookline-JP Patriots Advance In Pop Warner Super Bowl

BOSTON (CBS) - As the New England Patriots took the field against the Indianapolis Colts, so did the Brookline-Jamaica Plain Patriots, but on a much bigger stage.

Sort of.

The Brookline-JP Patriots took on the Oak Cliff Titans from Texas at the Pop Warner Super Bowl at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida, and were the only Massachusetts team to advance on to the semifinals.

The Patriots beat the Titans 22-0 in the first round of the Division I Jr. Midget competition on two touchdowns by Glenn Smith III. Smith III had a two-yard touchdown run and five-yard touchdown reception. Antonio Ortega had the big play of the day with a 33-yard touchdown catch, and Dexter Cumberland added a six-yard score.

The Patriots defense also came up with a safety on the Titans.

The Patriots, who used to be coached by Patriots President Jonathan Kraft, advance to the semi-finals on Wednesday where they will take on the White Oak Warriors of Maryland.

East Lynn, West Lynn and Worcester were all eliminated in the first round of the 55th annual Super Bowl.

The Worcester Vikings fell to the Tustin Red Cobras (CA) 40-6 in the first round of Division I Jr. Pee Wee competition, and will take on the Glenville Titans in a consolation match Wednesday at 8:30am.

The West Lynn Rams lost to the Southside Falcons (TX) 13-0 in the first round of Division II Midget competition. They will now play the Berkeley Bears at 3:15pm on Tuesday.

The East Lynn Bulldogs fell to the Florida City Razorbacks 36-0 in the Division I Midget competition and will play the East Bay Warriors (CA) at 3:15 on Wednesday.
