Crews Give All Clear After "Hazardous" Box Found In Roxbury Home

ROXBURY (CBS) - A box "that had markings indicating that it may be hazardous" was found in the basement of a home in Roxbury on Wednesday, sparking a hazardous materials situation.

Crews responded to the home on 64 Julian Street shortly after 2 p.m.

The box, which fire officials described as "old and wooden with a padlock on it," gave off low levels of radiation that were within accepted limits when tested.

The bomb squad was also called in to test the box.

Fire officials announced after 3:30 p.m. that they had "downsized" the response, and Boston Police announced after 4:30 p.m. that the situation was "all clear."

The box was transported to a Boston Fire Department facility for its proper disposal.

No injuries were reported.
