Car Crash Disrupts Firefighters During Oxford Blaze

OXFORD (CBS) - A massive fire forced several people out of their homes in Oxford late Sunday night.

The five-alarm fire ravaged the top floor of the two-and-a-half story apartment building on Main Street.

Oxford Fire Chief Sheri Bemis said the building was a total loss.

"It's like a maze inside the building," said Chief Bemis. "It was a very difficult fire to fight."

One person was taken to the hospital. Everyone else got out safely.

While firefighters battled the blaze overnight, the driver of a car apparently lost control, went careening through the police barricades and slammed into two of the fire trucks.

That driver then ran from the scene. Police are still looking for that driver.

No firefighters were hit by the car.
