CONCORD (CBS) – The Thoreau Club’s women’s tennis team has beaten the odds.

The group from Concord, Mass. served up a memorable performance that began in May and took them all the way to the National Championships in Arizona this weekend.

These ladies battled for months winning the Eastern District, followed by the New England sectionals.

They beat Utah, Virginia, Arizona, and California this weekend.

When the smoke cleared, they were crowned national champions – the best players in the nation.

WBZ-TV is particularly proud of the fact that one of the ten players on that squad is MyTV38 10pm News anchor Kate Merrill.
