Norton Looking To Increase Marijuana Possession Fine

NORTON (CBS) - The Norton police chief would like to increase fines for marijuana possession.

Since 2009, police in Norton have issued nearly 160 citations for marijuana with a fine for $100.

Police, though, have collected fines on only about two thirds of the citations. Taking somebody to court costs about as much as the fine, which is why the police chief wants to triple the fine to $300.

Some local residents disagree with that move.

Many of the marijuana violators come to the area for concerts at the Comcast Center, and are quick to leave Norton and the violation behind them.
