Whitey Bulger Halloween Costume Being Sold In Boston

BOSTON (CBS) - For $40, you can be Whitey Bulger. A new Halloween costume is hitting store shelves in and around Boston.

"I wouldn't wear it," says one man. "It doesn't seem appropriate. He's accused of some pretty serious crimes."

That man seems to be in the minority on this one.

WBZ-TV's Jim Armstrong reports

Dedham-based I-Party has launched a new Halloween costume this season that would allow anyone to pretend to be infamous former fugitive James Whitey Bulger.

It's pretty straightforward in its design on the shelves just a day, and it seems to have won some fans.

"I think it's outstanding! I'd wear it, I'd give you a million bucks for that thing right now!" said one woman.

WBZ's Jim Armstrong spoke off camera with the widow of one of Bulger's alleged murder victims. She's disgusted by the idea someone would not just make such a costume, but that anyone else would dress up as a man accused of murdering 19 local people.

But it seems, if you're not personally connected to the man or his legendary wrath, you might be OK with it.

One man expects to see them being worn. "Oh, they'll be wearing them absolutely; you'll see them out there, beard and white hair and everything."
