WORCESTER (CBS) – To most people meeting Frank ‘n Louie for the first time he looks like any ordinary cat.

“They initially walk up with the look of ‘oh what a beautiful cat’ and then as he turns I see the look of horror come across their face.”

Marty, Frank ‘n Louie’s owner says her cat with two names is also the cat with two faces and after turning 12 earlier this month, he’s now the oldest two-faced cat.

WBZ-TV’s Diana Perez reports

He was nominated by Guinness World Records for the longest living Janus cat, which is a new term for two faced cat, says Marty. The term Janus cat refers to the Roman God Janus who had two faces.

But Frank ‘n Louie almost didn’t make it. When he was just one day old a breeder dropped him off to be euthanized. Marty, a veterinary nurse, adopted him right away, “Nobody had claimed him and I said ‘I’ll take him I’ll take him’ and everybody just told me don’t get your hopes up, they don’t live and I said, ‘let me just try.”

And so this two faced feline grew up to be a loving, healthy cat. With a few unique quirks that make Frank, Frank and Louie, Louie.

“Everything works in unison, so when this side eats, this side sometimes goes up and down… He see’s out of the two outside eyes here, the middle eye is not functional but it doesn’t bother him at all. He’s fine with the way he looks,” says Marty.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Lana Jones reports

It’s twice the cat and twice the cute!

Frank ‘n Louie wasn’t expected to make it longer than four days, much less 12 years. His life expectancy is between 13 and 15 years but his owner is hoping he’ll keep his miracle cat status going and live well into is 20’s.

    1. Blue says:

Feline Leukemia is a virus that ALL cats are susceptible to without the FeLV vaccine.

  4. Ann says:

wow i am cat lover i never see a cat like that before i fell sorry for that thing he must have problems walking with 2 heads

    1. chipfields says:

      he’ll get used to it

      1. TedinTN says:

He is 12 years old. “He’ll get used to it”??? What are you smoking?

    2. Truth Detector says:

      No, he uses his legs.

    3. Leo says:

i guess god gave him two legs to walk…so y do u think that it is difficult?

  5. Matt says:

Quick shoot it. This thing is terrible looking. I will have nightmares for weeks because of this.

    1. Legion says:

Oh f*ck off. Shoot yourself and do the world a favor you POS.

Is this the Governor without his makeup?

  7. Ann says:

Matt i would have nightmares also if he at my place

    1. MaryEllen Milne says:

I hope he does have 18 kives. Nothibg would be nore fitting. The rest of us could use double heads, faces, and enjoy the same benefits too.

  8. Hollywood HIck says:

Did Al Gore use this photo as an example of consequences of global warming?

  9. Factchecker says:

    Does a two-faced cat have 18 lives?

    1. Leo says:

no i don’t think so…All cats have only 1 life

  10. damon beckett says:

the humane thing to do is to euthanize the cat but not in this “save all the animals” climate.

    1. Elisabeth Gordon says:

WHY Damon? – he has thrived since being born and has two lovely people parents who love him – did you not read the article….if we put down every creature that is not deemed “perfect” in the eyes of “normal society” we would be no better than our Neanderthal forefathers…..

      1. woodNfish says:

Because it is a freak Elizabeth. Nature has a perfectly good way of dealing with this type of mutation – they die. Allowing it to live is unnatural and wrong.

      2. JanineC says:

I suppose Damon and WoodNfish both think that “freak” people should die too?? Why not just go out and euthenize all the handicapped people while you are at it??

Ugh…Ignore them, Elisabeth. They are just cruel, petty people who have no humanity or decency.

      3. Brian David Holbrook says:

WoodNfish, are you slow? Because your statement is completely illogical. “Allowing it to live is unnatural and wrong?” Interfering with nature would be unnatural and wrong. “Nature” has obviously decided that the cat live. The only thing the person did was prevent it from being killed by humans before it’s due time.

By your logic, we should put you down, because you’re a f***ing idiot.

      4. meyon25 says:

        not Neanderthal…..NeanderTAL

      5. CB11 says:

It wasn’t dying, it was going to be euthanized. Nothing in the article says anything about the cat being sick or needing any emergeny care. Since no extra measures had to be taken for him (them) to survive, seems to me that God, Mother Nature or whomever you deem rules this Universe chose to let it live. Freak of Nature or not, the number one rule of nature: SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST! Bravo! to Marty for being able to look past what others would find repulsive. That, my friends, is the true definition of Human Compassion!

    2. coach23 says:

you obviously don’t know anything about animals and when it is time to euthanize them. you have no heart at all.

  11. mikesa says:

There is a two-faced sheep in the Bandera Cowboy Museum, in Bandera, Texas. It is way bigger than that cat.

  12. Kate says:

This is going to haunt my dreams.

  13. Flannigan says:

    How is this a record?
Isn’t Hillery Clinton in her sixties?

    1. hkinsey3 says:

However old she is…..she looks older.

  14. J.V. says:

    It’s Bush’s fault!

  15. John Moser says:

If he has one brain shouldn’t he have one name? I guess it doesn’t matter, cats never come when you call anyway.

    1. Melissa in NorCal says:

I had the same question – one brain – one idividual – one name. Hmmm.

    2. mary says:

sorry wrong. got three cats and only one dosent come when callled. Of course one thinks he a dog and wags his tail when he comes ;P

  16. Alice Ramirez says:

You must have confused “Republican” with Obama. What you describe is what Dear Leader is doing.

  17. Alice Ramirez says:

The cat seems content and is well-loved and well-treated. Suggestions that the cat should have been euthanized indicate a confusion of Human reactions with Feline. The CAT doesn’t care that he has two faces. The cat can eat and poop, is clearly active and friendly, and lives in a loving home with guardians who protect and care for him. He is NOT suffering.

    1. coach23 says:

He has a family who loves him so why shouldn’t he live a long and happy life. He is not suffering in any way.

  18. karen s says:

how lucky Frank&Louie. Congratulations on having the good fortune that a caring human believed in you. Marty, you are a special person, and i hope your privacy is respected. Head scratch and a belly rub to you.

  19. roughman says:

    Life is life…

There is no such thing as a “Freak…”

    1. Softy says:

Well said! Now, if we can convince all those who don’t believe as we do , especially of the unborn!

  20. Clearhead says:

Is this the same cat who used to be Speaker Of The House?

  21. linda says:

After hearing some of the comments from these people, I now know who should be put to sleep! The cat is healthy and loved, which is probably more than can be said of the commenters!

  22. This Old Cat says:

Cats don’t do politics. They are too intelligent which is more than I can say for some of the commenters. Thanks, Marty for stepping up and being a heroine. For those of you who have trouble with big words, heroine is the female version of hero.

  23. Name says:

I’m scared now!(no offense Marty)Also life can be rough!

  24. petem says:

Wow. Troll city today! Don’t you have anything better to do with your life losers? I guess this is how you see what really in person’s soul, by how they treat a defenseless animal.
All you haters have wasted so much of your lives on nonsense comments like these. Do something with your lives. stop taking up space.

    1. Abner Hale says:

      Irony, thy name is petem.

      1. Truth Detector says:

A self-aggrandized societal healer, petem has kept his vow today.

        You know, the ‘hypocritical oath’…

  25. Steve Fama says:

Look on the bright side it’s awful hard to sneak up on that cat

  26. Tony says:

Most cats are usually two-faced anyway. BAM! Does this mean they have to feed it twice? BAM BAM!!!

  27. Rick O'Shea says:

    I bet it’s a great mouser.

  28. susan says:

It seems people are having fun with this cat secondary to having two faces…play on words etc…but I think Marty is the lucky one…to have this experience and the honor of such a unique and beautiful….yes, beautiful cat. Looks like a ragdoll to me and I would take it in a heartbeat…I love that cat….Marty…if you ever need to give it a home…it can come to my 4 cat emporium where I have a blind ragdoll and totally worship it….

  29. Grow A Brain says:

He “see’s”? Really? How do you get a job in journalism when you’re too stupid to know how to use an apostrophe?

    1. jim says:

      She was just quoting Marty…

      1. Seriously? says:

True…but I am betting Marty was speaking and she was typing. I know when I speak I don’t put in apostrophes…or leave them out. That was clearly the writer’s error.

  30. Lex says:

Evolution at it’s best huh hahaha

  31. Zac says:

A very cute kitty. Glad to see that it has lived a long and loved life. Happy story!

  32. TheRealKingMax says:

What’s the big deal? The cat has two faces.

    Just like Obama.

  33. Rolco says:

This [Cat] reminds me of an ex boss I once had :)

  34. Timmy says:

There`s a two faced cat in the White House right now. A black cat.

  36. Bev says:

What an amazing cat! What an amazing, compassionate, women to love and be dedicated to this wonderful cat. You both are blessed!

  37. wiseoldlady says:

Just as in humans, this cat is a conjoined twin…but fortunately for the cat, he only has two faces and the rest of of his anatomy is singular. Props to Marty for taking him in. I wish the cat another ten years, at least!

  38. John Heffernan says:

A natural for the life of a politician.

  39. robert says:

You’re not related to Cosmo, are you?

  40. Teddy K says:

Leave it to a liberal to inject political insults into a story about a cat with birth defect.

  41. Kathy Stuart says:

What a great story about taking a chance. Over the years my brother and I have rescued several kittens abandoned by their mothers because they were “defective”. I am happy to say that most of them have grown into healthy happy adults who could care less about their conditions. Some did not survive, but passed gently, safe and warm in the arms of someone who loved them.

When it is a matter of nothing to lose, why not choose life?

  42. Rich R says:

I say “Hooray” for the cat, and “Bravo” for the vet assistant who saved and is caring for it. Even animals with defects can have a long and productive life if given a chance. And by the way, Neanderthals were not clumsy stupid barbarians that they are made out to be, but family/clan oriented peoples with intelligence who buried their dead, had religion and cared for their in-firmed; even an animal that wasn’t perfectly formed by today’s standards.

  43. bob says:

    Cute cat……amusing commenters.

  44. eric says:

There are a lot of two faced people out there.

  45. Luis D. Rey says:

No, this Cat was the result of Bill Ayers breeding with Barack Obama (Yo Mama)

  46. boredstiff says:

who new a 2 faced kitty could inspire such debate? lol

  47. Wendy says:

Way to go Marty! You are a woman with a good heart. :)

It saddens me that there are people that believe that just because something is different it doesn’t deserve to live.

  48. MaryEllen Milne says:

I have a beautiful, new kitty. Nothing wrong with him; his owners just didn’t want him –pitched him in my door and ran doiwn the hall to the elevator. I wouldn’t have minded if he had had two faces, or two tails or eight paws –; he’s just another little sweetheart who;s in need of loving. I expect this lady’s little cat is in the same need of love, and I congratulate her — laud her — for the love she’s giving her new little pet. You go, girl! — and go kitty, too!
    Mary Ellen

P.S. Please, if you ever get the chance, send me pictures and updates on Frank and Louie. Thanks.
