UNH To Stop Selling Energy Drinks

DURHAM, N.H. (AP) -- University of New Hampshire students won't be able to buy Red Bull and other energy drinks on campus starting in January.

UNH Dining, which overseas three dining halls and seven retail locations, will no longer sell energy drinks in its retail and vending machine locations as part of an effort to keep students safe and healthy.

College officials say such products, while legal and safe when consumed as intended, can be dangerous when overused or mixed with alcohol. That's what happened recently, when a student ended up in the hospital.

Energy drinks typically contain more caffeine than soft drinks, as well as sugar and other ingredients that claim to boost mental and physical energy.
