Boston College To Wear 'Red Bandanna' Stickers To Honor 9/11 Hero

BOSTON (AP) -- The Boston College football team will wear helmet stickers in Saturday's game to honor an Eagles lacrosse player who died while helping usher others to safety in the World Trade Center during the Sept. 11 attacks.

The stickers will feature a red bandanna in the memory of Welles Crowther, an equity trader who died in the south tower. The 1999 BC graduate was well-known for always having a red bandanna with him, and those he helped rescue said he was wearing it on Sept. 11.

BC plays Central Florida on Saturday. Welles' sisters have been invited to the game as the school's guests.

More than 5,900 people have vowed to wear red bandannas to the game.

The school is planning another tribute at home against Duke the following week.
