Man's Backyard Now A Crime Scene After Woburn Officer Shooting

WOBURN (CBS) - In just minutes, Kevin Barry's Woburn home became a second crime scene on Tuesday after police caught up with a suspect wanted in connection with the shooting of an officer.

Officer Robert DeNapoli was originally responding to a robbery at Musto Jewelers and was shot multiple times. He is listed in good condition at the hospital.

WBZ-TV's Diana Perez reports.

While DeNapoli was being tended to by the jewelry store, police chased one of the gunmen to Barry's home on Lexington Street, cornering the suspect just beyond the back porch.

"They told us there were 17 bullets shot in the yard," said Barry.

No one was home at the time.

"There's a number of rubber gloves in the area as they were taking him out on the stretcher and of course the whole area has been marked off as a crime scene," said Barry.

Just like they did for everyone else who lives in that area, armed officers swept Barry's home Tuesday night before they let him inside.

The arrested suspect's name has not been released yet, but officials said he will not face a judge until Thursday at the earliest. Police are still looking for at least two other suspects.
