Volunteers Needed For Mass. Tornado Clean-Up

BRIMFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- Volunteers are being sought for a tornado cleanup blitz in central and western Massachusetts.

The weekend cleanup will continue Sunday in communities hit by June 1 tornadoes that were blamed for three deaths and widespread damage. The "Recover, Repair, Rebuild Tornado 2011" effort is seeking thousands of volunteers for work in Brimfield, Charlton, Southbridge and Sturbridge.

Cosmo Casamassa, one of the event organizers, said the goal is to bridge a gap between multiple groups already working on the ground and the people who need assistance. Volunteers can sign up online or at registration sites at town command centers.
