Recall Petition Confuses Lawrence Voters

LAWRENCE (CBS) - The ongoing recall petition in Lawrence against Mayor William Lantigua is causing a setback for some candidates running for city office.

Candidates running for City Council and School Committee need to get a certain amount of voter signatures to have their names listed on the ballots.

But some voters are getting the nomination petitions mixed up with the recall petition.

City Council Vice President Grisel Silva says some voters are choosing not to sign for fear of retaliation.

"They feel like so afraid, they just don't want to sign this, they say I don't want to be bothered," says Silva of the voters. "They just feel bullied."

Lantigua has been running ads in Spanish, telling voters not to sign the recall petition.
