Toucher & Rich: Jeff Passan On The Trade Deadline & The Sox

As the MLB trade deadline looms the rumors start to swirl about players that might be available. Some of the names that have been thrown out are Houston Astros right fielder Hunter Pence and starting pitcher Ubaldo Jiménez of the Colorado Rockies.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich about these players, and what the Red Sox might do come the deadline.

"It's sort of a silly season in Major League Baseball. Guys get dangled out there like test balloons and general managers see what they can possibly get for them and when they don't get what they like, they just get yanked right back," Passan said.

Local reports have come out saying the Red Sox are not interested in Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran, and it seems they will not make a big deal at the deadline.

"You get that impression, but Theo changes his mind very quickly sometimes. All it takes is a 3 or 4 game losing streak for the sky to fall in Boston... I think if Josh Reddick didn't have the great 100 at-bats that he's having right now, the Red Sox interest would be a lot more legitimate," said Passan.

The guys also discussed the Yankees being down 2 games in the AL East and what moves the Sox biggest rivals might make.

This and much more with Jeff Passan from Yahoo Sports.
