HOLDEN (CBS) – A boy who collapsed at a soccer camp and later died did not have any known medical condition, authorities said Tuesday.

12-year-old Joshua Thibodeau was taking part in a light drill with several others at the  Zalgiris Soccer Camp at Wachusett Regional High School Monday morning when he suddenly collapsed and never got back up.

He died less than hour later at UMass Medical Center in Worcester.

In a news conference at Holden Police Headquarters Tuesday, Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr. said a preliminary investigation showed Thibodeau did not have a pre-existing medical condition.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

“They weren’t involved in heavy running, hard drills.  They had only been participating in a slow, low-level, low-impact drill which had been going on for about 10-15 minutes,” Early said.

Wachusett Regional School District Superintendent Tom Pandiscio said there were two water breaks before Thibodeau collapsed.  He had not complained about anything in the moments leading up to the incident.

Thibodeau and all of the other players had the mandatory medical waivers allowing them to take part in the summer camp, which re-opened Tuesday morning.

Pandiscio told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 it was a tough call.

“The big picture is that, as a superintendent, is these are children that we said we’d care for and we have that commitment and we need to honor that commitment with the other families.”

My 14 year old son is currently in Children’s Hospital after going into Cardiac Arrest on June 18th while on his way to the Bruins Parade. It’s been a month now and the cardiologists still have NO answer to why this happened. They’ve ruled out everything possible, although they are still waiting for one test to come back regarding genetics. My son was a healthy, athletic boy who had no previous complications at all. My son now has severe brain damage and is still in a coma like state. This makes no sense. I was devastated to read this story and feel so bad for Joshua’s family. My heart goes out to them deeply.

I broke out crying when i was txted that Josh had passed he was in my homeroom and Band class. He also went to my elemenatry school. I can’t wait for them to find out what went wrong. Josh had the greatest love for soccer and was great at making others smile. He will never truely leave the town of hoden and will always stay near to the ones he knew.

Josh was not only my godfathers son but he was also my “twin”. He had a very well known passion for soccer and the best i had seen for a kid his age. They know now that he had a heart problem that nobody knew about. They know this because all of there children were tested in hopes of finding a reason and his brother has this heart disese. Finally they are putting the puzzle pieces together. My love will always be for the Thibodeaus expesicly now.
