Inspectors Remove Light Fixture From Big Dig Tunnel
BOSTON (CBS) - Transportation inspectors discovered a light that was not correctly connected to the tunnel leading into 93 South from the Leverett Connector on Thursday, and when they pulled it off, they found more corrosion.
Transportation Secretary Jeff Mullan informed reporters of the light issue on Friday. He said the light was checked back in May and they didn't detect a problem. Mullan says it's not clear why the corrosion wasn't discovered then.
WBZ-TV's Karen Anderson reports.
This light was located next to a jet fan, and now inspectors are taking a closer look at all the lights by jet fans.
This follows a public relations fiasco with the Big Dig lights. Mullan admits he made a mistake by not informing the public immediately about falling lights.
The more recently discovered corroded light has been reinstalled and re-strapped.
