Bruins Fans Turn Streets Into Black And Gold For A Day

BOSTON (CBS) - The rally cry roared as the streets of Boston turned into a sea of black and gold Saturday.

Fans yelled, "Vancouver's rioting - we're rallying baby!!"

In case you didn't know, one sign on Causeway Street spelled it out, "WE WON THE CUP" and Bruins fans poured their hearts out to thank the players who brought it back home.

Carolyn Mitchell from Wellesley, who is a Toronto native, was one of thousands of people draped in Bruins gear.

"Thanks to all of the Boston players, they were awesome, they brought it home," she said.

"We're thrilled, so proud of them."

"It means a lot, I've never been to a championship," Andrew Kovacs told WBZ-TV.

WBZ-TV's Kathy Curran reports

For some, it's a first, but this town has seen many championships in recent years, although this one was so very sweet.

On the ground, Bruins captain, Zdeno Chara hoisted the Stanley Cup into the air as fans hoisted a trophy of their own from the balconies above.

Chris Mitchell showed up at 4:30 in the morning to get a spot in the front row and to spend her birthday with her favorite team.

"It's the best in the world, can't beat it, best birthday present ever, EVER!!" she said.

The only thing better would be if the Cup was on top of her cake.
