The Fresh Grocer: Perfect Red Seedless Grapes

BOSTON (CBS) - Grapes make the perfect snack this time of year.

The Fresh Grocer, Tony Tantillo, has some tips on how to pick the perfect bunch of red seedless grapes.

Tony says that grapes are harvested only when fully ripe so they should always be ready to eat when you buy them.

On his website, Tony describes that consumers should use color as a guide to the sweetness of the fruit:

  • Green grapes should have a yellow cast or straw color with a touch of amber, when fully ripe, not an opaque grassy green color.
  • Red grapes should be a deep crimson, not a milky or pale red.
  • Blue grapes should be darkly hued, almost black, not pale or tinged with green.

One tip is to store the grapes into a Ziploc bag in your freezer. That will give you the coolest, crispest taste possible, especially in the summertime.

You can watch Tony weekdays at noon on WBZ-TV.
