Mass. To Offer Rebates On Energy Efficient Refrigerators, Air Conditioners

BOSTON (AP) -- Massachusetts is offering rebates of up to $200 for residents who buy new energy efficient refrigerators and air conditioners.

The program that starts for purchases made on or after July 28 will offer rebates of $150 for Energy Star refrigerators and $50 for air conditioners that will replace old models.

The program is part of the Patrick administration's commitment to energy efficiency.

The program is funded by a combination of federal grants and is expected to save consumers $2 million combined, while saving about 1.8 million kilowatt hours of power for a year.

Mark Sylvia, commissioner of the state Department of Energy Resources, says consumers will save money on the initial purchase and through lower utility bills.
