Bomb Squad Responds To MIT Dorm In Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (CBS/AP) -- A suspicious device at a residence hall at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has turned out to be harmless.

Tuesday morning, the building known as New House, or W70, was evacuated after construction workers found materials that resembled a pipe bomb. There were nine people inside who were asked to leave the building.

WBZ-TV's Peg Rusconi reports.

The school year has already ended and few students are on campus.

Police cordoned off a nearby street and asked everyone to stay away from the area.

The state police and Cambridge police bomb squad responded and were able to determine the materials were harmless.
