Blandford Man Charged With Drugged Driving In School Bus Crash

BLANDFORD (CBS) -- A Blandford man is charged with drugged driving after crashing head-on into a school bus.

Police say Robert Nichols, 50, was speeding when he crashed his Land Rover into the bus on South Street near Route 23 in Blandford on Thursday morning. Investigators say he crossed and re-crossed the median before swerving into the path of the bus.

None of the four Chester Elementary School students on the bus was injured, nor was the 56-year-old driver from Southwick.

Police say after the crash Nichols appeared sleepy and impaired. He was taken to Noble Hospital with minor injuries. Police found two pill bottles in his SUV.

Nichols was released on personal recognizance from the hospital Thursday afternoon.
