Patriots Draft CB Ras-I Dowling To Open 2nd Round

NEW YORK (AP) - The New England Patriots have made Ras-I Dowling of Virginia the first selection of the second round of the NFL draft.

With court proceedings not yielding any changes in the labor situation, the teams concentrated Friday on top prospects who fell out of the first round. The lockout still is lifted for now, and the league has not set up guidelines for trading or signing veterans.

The fans' mood over the lockout hadn't changed as they again showered Commissioner Roger Goodell with boos when he said New England was on the clock.

Given their willingness to trade down, it was a bit of a surprise the Patriots stayed put and went for the Virginia
cornerback. Hall of Fame linebacker Andre Tippett announced the pick.
