NEW YORK (AP) – The New England Patriots have made Ras-I Dowling of Virginia the first selection of the second round of the NFL draft.

With court proceedings not yielding any changes in the labor situation, the teams concentrated Friday on top prospects who fell out of the first round. The lockout still is lifted for now, and the league has not set up guidelines for trading or signing veterans.

The fans’ mood over the lockout hadn’t changed as they again showered Commissioner Roger Goodell with boos when he said New England was on the clock.

Given their willingness to trade down, it was a bit of a surprise the Patriots stayed put and went for the Virginia
cornerback. Hall of Fame linebacker Andre Tippett announced the pick.

Defense: It’s hard to swallow this pick. Why. Don’t need him. If the big eaters stay healthy they have depth with Ty Warren coming back ( if his head is on straight) and Brace getting better. Cunningham progressing as a second year player combing with Banta Caine averaging 6+ sacks will help but they still need a legit pass rusher. However most pass rushers are weak against the rush but on 3rd and 14 most offenses don’t run unless your stuck with Vince Youn. Don’t think like the Bruins here. The D backs core is already good but can’t cover forever without some pressure . Get a burner at OLB.

Offense: Love the first round pick at tackle. Big drop in talent with Pouncy off the board at guard. With Steve Neal retired (under rated drive blocker), both Mankins and Light are likely gone next year and Koppin getting older its a good start rebuilding the O line. We want Tom Terrific upright and healthy in the pocket with time to eat a tea sandwich in the pocket the next three or four years. Work on the interior line next year and adding an extra running back or deep threat is a bonus.

I miss John Hanna crushing Big Bertha at Bryant summer camp. Zo and Gresch rule. Best we got in New England along with Steve Deossie.

So far this is the WORST draft in Patriots history….really…Ras I Dowling, Shane Vereen…Ryan Mallet, Stevan(who)Ridley…are you F’n serious. Dowling is worse than Butler, Vereen isn’t now as good as Faulk. I don’t even know Ridley, but REALLY…Ryan LEAF Mallet…I’m off the bandwagon…Bellichick needs to realize that he isn’t a draft guru…his drafts have sucked…the Pats will go 8-8 next….so F’n disappointed

you are an idiot…BB knows more about his football team than you ever could!

    2. Brian says:

They went 14-2 without a solid OLB so you assume they will go 8-8 becuase they didnt add a DeMarcus Ware? You’re an idiot.
