A battle of the bands, animation expo and free Earth Day Concert highlight some of the events going on in and around Boston this weekend.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble Finals

Friday Night, 8 pm
TT the Bear’s Place, Cambridge

Boston’s legendary battle of the bands is back. Twenty-four of Boston’s best unsigned bands have competed over the last two weeks. It’s now down to the Finals of the Rock ’n’ Roll Rumble 2011. Finalists Spirit Kid and John Powhida International Airport will compete against wildcard OldJack. The Red Carpet starts at 8 p.m. Show is 18+ and admission is $12.

Shrine Circus

Friday and Saturday
Shriner’s Auditorium, Wilmington

This family-friendly, small circus features acrobats, clowns and animal acts. All tickets are just $10 and parking is free. It’s run by volunteers and proceeds go to the Shriners children’s hospitals.

Anime Boston 2011

All Weekend
Hynes Convention Center, Boston

The three-day annual convention celebrating Japanese animation is back. Past popular events include a masquerade, an anime music video contest, video programming rooms, an artists’ alley and art show, karaoke, game shows, video games, manga library, dances and more.

Chihuly ‘Through The Looking Glass’

Through August 7
Museum of Fine Arts

This exhibit of the bold and brilliant blown glass works of Dale Chihuly is open through mid-summer at the MFA. General museum admission includes access to this exhibit, though access may be limited during peak traffic times. Kids under 17 always get into the MFA for free.

Earth Day Concert

Friday afternoon
Greenway, Boston

This free outdoor concert on the Rose Kennedy Greenway takes place from Noon to 3 p.m. This year’s concert features performances by BoDeans and Entrain. Bring your blanket and picnic and enjoy the music.

Guided Hike

Saturday 11 a.m.
Middlesex Fells, Stoneham

Meet at the Botume House at the Middlesex Fells Reservation in Stoneham to take advantage of this free outdoor adventure. The three-hour guided hike begins at 11 a.m. This hike covers several miles and may not be suitable for children under 10. No dogs allowed.

Charles River Dam Tour

Saturday, 2 p.m.
Paul Revere Park, Charlestown

The Charles River Dam maintains the water level in the river basin with a series of pumps and locks. Tour the facility that keeps the tides from reclaiming much of the Boston and Cambridge riverfront. Meet at the flagpoles in Paul Revere Park, Charlestown.

Lynn Carnival

Lynn Vo-Tech High School

Fiesta Shows brings the Lynn Carnival to the grounds at Lynn Vo-Tech High School. It’s open from Wednesday, April 20th through Sunday, April 24th. The gates open weeknights at 6 p.m. and weekends at noon. Print a $3 coupon online.

Imagination Movers in Concert

Orpheum Theater, Boston

Their act has been described as a mix between the Beastie Boys and Mr. Rogers. The high-energy Imagination Movers bring their kids’ concert to the Orpheum for two shows on Saturday. Catch them at 11 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. Tickets start at about $40.
