The Parent Report: A New Study Shows Too Much Screen Time Is Never A Good Thing

BOSTON (CBS) - A study shows too much screen time can be linked to psychological problems in children.

Can too much time in front of the TV or laptop harm your child psychologically? That's the focus of a study by the Center for Exercise, Nutrition and Health Sciences at the University of Bristol in England. It found pre-teens being entertained in front of the computer or TV for more than two hours each day are at a greater risk for psychological problems, and that risk could be as high as 60%, even if your kid gets plenty of exercise.

Carolyn Landis is a licensed clinical psychologist and associate professor of pediatrics at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland and she says she's unsure of the link between screen time and depression...

But Landis says the findings show parents still need to take a clear role in determining how much time their children spend plugged in.

Over a thousand children aged 10 and 11 were studied. Results are published in the journal Pediatrics.
