Police: Husband Carjacked, Stabbed Estranged Wife Before Arrest

BOXFORD (CBS) - State Police found a wounded woman and a man after an intense search near a weigh station on Route 95 Friday.

Police say 39-year-old career criminal Dennis Small of Amesbury picked up his estranged wife at knifepoint early this morning in Salisbury and drove off in a minivan.

Police say it started about 3 a.m. Friday, when Small called his estranged wife, Allison and said he wanted just to talk with her.

But when she picked him up, Small allegedly pulled a knife, forced her to go to an ATM, and made her withdraw money.

Small, who police say is a career criminal, allegedly wanted to empty out a bank account so he could buy drugs.

"He has a very violent history," says Salisbury Police Chief Rich Merill. "(He) has had 33 contacts with the judicial system...and just recently was released from MCI Concord."

Minutes later, police say he was spotted at a gas station, beating and choking Allison Small.

Investigators say he then put her in her minivan, stabbed her three times, and sped off heading south onto Interstate 95.
