Nearly 700 Mass. National Guard Troops Deployed To Afghanistan
BOSTON (CBS) - Family and friends said goodbye in a massive troop sendoff at Boston College on Sunday.
Nearly 700 National Guard soldiers from the 1st battalion, 182nd infantry regiment were being deployed to Afghanistan.
The brave men and women and their relatives gathered at Conte Forum for the ceremony for hugs and plenty of tears.
The regiment has three objectives while stationed in Afghanistan: (1) improve security, (2) extend the authority of the Afghan central government, and (3) move along reconstruction projects throughout the country.
