Boston Chases Record High Temperature On Friday

BOSTON (CBS) - Spring may officially start on Sunday, but unofficially it felt like it began yesterday.

High temperatures on Thursday reached 63 in Boston, the warmest we have been since last November!

Today, we are going to be even warmer. Temperatures will reach well into the 60s and make a run at 70 degrees in a few towns, including Boston.

If we were to reach 70 in Boston, that would tie the record for this date which was set back in 1999.

It would also be the first time we hit 70 degrees in Boston since October 28th.

Lets face it, with the long, cold winter, we are overdue.  In fact, since Thanksgiving we have only touched the 60 degree mark 4 times including yesterday.

Will this warm weather last?

Anyone who has lived in New England for any length of time knows the answer to that question: No.

A cold front is making steady progress into Southern New England at this hour and will pass through by early afternoon.

The temperatures will not immediately plunge, but by Saturday morning we will be in the 30s and highs Tomorrow will only manage to get into the low 40s…a nearly 30 degree drop in high temperatures in 24 hours.

The change in airmass will also be accompanied by very gusty winds this afternoon and early evening. A wind advisory is in effect for most of southern New England through 7 p.m. for west-northwest winds 20-40 mph, gusting to 50 m.p.h.
