Curious About Payments To Commuter Rail

I'd be interested to know what the MBTA pays the MBCR to manage the rail system.  What is the salary package of the heads of the MBCR?  - Jayne, Beverly

MBCR stands for the Mass. Bay Commuter Rail...the company that runs those purple trains.  The MBTA hires the MBCR to do that job and pays it $230-million per year.

When I asked the MBCR spokesman what the top mucky mucks make he told me that since the MBCR is a private company, they don't make that information public.  I'm guessing they do ok.

This winter has been a nightmare for a lot of commuter rail riders.  The people who run the system blame a lot of the problems on a lack of money to repair or replace antiquated equipment.  Funny thing about that.  David Wade and I are working on a story about how conductors don't always check tickets on the trains, which means some people ride for free and the system is losing money.  The MBCR admits this is a problem and says it's getting better at, well, collecting fares.  You can see our story Wednesday night on our 11pm newscast.

If you're one of the 70,000 people who ride the commuter rail each weekday...tell us what the last several months have been like.
