2 Arrested After Attempted Armed Robbery In Lawrence

LAWRENCE (CBS) - Two men were taken into custody after a five-hour stand-off inside an apartment above a Lawrence liquor store they allegedly tried to rob on Sunday.

Police said that the owner of McCann's Liquors on South Union Street fired a shot during the attempted armed robbery, but the suspects were uninjured.

The two suspects then reportedly fled to an apartment above the store and the SWAT team was called in. Officers found them in a stairway crawlspace.

When police arrived on the scene, officers reportedly found two people inside injured, and one of them was bound with duct tape. The victims, who may have been pistol-whipped, were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers recovered a rifle and two shotguns in the store, but it was not clear who they belonged to.

The two suspects, who have not been identified, are due to be arraigned in Lawrence District Court on Monday.
