Four-Alarm Fire In Leominster Destroys Apartment Building

LEOMINSTER (CBS) -- Crews were called to a fire in a multi-family home on Boutelle Street in Leominster Saturday. It turned into a four-alarm fire.

Witnesses near the scene, which is not far from downtown Leominster, report very smoky conditions. They add that the fire appeared to have started in the back of the building, but moved quickly.

Officials say while there are several apartments in the home, only two were occupied.

"I was just terrified," said one man who lived in the building. "I was just trying to get my friend out because she was upstairs. She had no idea."

The building inspector has told firefighters the building will need to be torn down because of the extensive damage.

Mutual aid was called in from neighboring towns including Fitchburg, Lunenburg and Westminster.

There were no reports of injuries.
