Here is some raw video from the Red Sox first day of workouts at Fort Myers. Not too much going on, but it's great to see the "boys of summer" back on the field. It's a great site to see Dustin Pedroia swinging a bat again, and without a boot on his foot.

Rochie caught up with "The Captain" Jason Varitek, as he begins his 15th spring training with the Red Sox. Tek talks about his off-season workouts and goals for this season. Varitek now feels like a member of the Red Sox coaching staff when it comes to handling the pitchers, and alson looks forward to supporting and working with Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

12:15 p.m.

Terry Francona addressed the media Tuesday morning. He said they wanted guys to just go 80-percent in their workouts, and not try to be a hero. "There's a difference between trying to work hard and hurting guys," Tito said. "Regardless of what you are in camp, whether you're a Josh Beckett that's a veteran or a young kid that's trying to make a name for himself, you still have to go through spring training and you still have to get prepared. The name of the game is building arm strength right now."

10:24 a.m.

Pitchers have begun to throw their first side session of the spring. Jason Varitek is catching Josh Beckett, while Jarrod Saltalamacchia is catching Jon Lester.

9:46 a.m.

The Red Sox held a team meeting at 9 a.m. where manager Terry Francona addressed the pitchers and catchers.  They hit the field shortly after for some stretching and will focus on PFP (pitcher's fielding practice) Tuesday and throughout the spring. Josh Beckett and other starters are scheduled to throw a side session at 10:15 a.m.

9:20 a.m.

Dan Roche calls in to 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich and talks about a slim-downed John Lackey, Jonathan Papelbon's Locker Room antics, and (of course) the weather down in Florida.
