Punxsutawney Phil Says Early Spring

BOSTON (CBS) - A little brown groundhog in Pennsylvania gave many people in the Boston area the news they were hoping for Wednesday morning. As we dealt with round two of a double-barrel snow storm, Punxsutawney Phil predicted that spring would arrive early.

Before snow started falling on Wednesday, Boston had already recorded 67.1 inches of snow this season; that's two feet more than the average for an entire winter.

So when Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow without seeing his shadow, whoops of joy could be heard in neighborhoods from Worcester to Gloucester to Plymouth.
