Woman Gives Birth In Boston Cab During Traffic Jam

BOSTON (AP) - A Boston cab driver didn't know his passenger was pregnant until she began screaming. Minutes later, she gave birth.

Calixte Beauliere told the Boston Herald that he picked up a couple Friday night who asked to go to Massachusetts General Hospital. The cab hit heavy traffic along the way, but everything in the taxi was quiet -- until the screams began.

Beauliere says he asked what was going on, and the woman's husband said his wife was having a baby. He heard the baby's cries two minutes later.

The cabbie called 911 and handed the phone to the husband. The taxi was met by an ambulance blocks from the hospital.

The couple gave him a $9 tip on an $11 fare.
