Who Gets Non-Qualified Marathon Numbers?

BOSTON (CBS) -- Runners have already started training for next year's Boston Marathon, two months after the race organizers posted a record registration.

All 25,000 numbers were claimed in just eight hours and three minutes. The Boston Athletic Association reserved 20,000 to 21,000 numbers for those who qualify.

Nearly 6,000 were set aside for non-qualified entrants.

The Boston Globe decided to look into exactly who is among the latter group. Bob Hohler and Shira Springer wrote the story.

WBZ News Radio's Mary Blake spoke with Springer about what they found.
